Cassandra Wilson (SUN)
Cassandra Wilson is one of the greatest vocal stars and Prince says it like no other"...and the one who has been around for a while but still continues to haunt me till' this day, Cassandra Wilson". There are few artists like Cassandra Wilson. A singer who has taken her music around with her on a her journey of life whilst leaving a mark wherever she goes, whether it be jazz, blues, country, folk, soul and funk.
In New York in the 80s, she met up with a bunch of creative types, including Steve Coleman, and cofounded the legendary M-Base Collective which set jazz in different direction when it incorporated elements of such soul and funk.
After 18 albums the Mississippi singer returns with her new album, ‘Silver Pony’ and a fantastic band propped by the pianist Jonathan Batiste. We have a sneaky feeling Solliden will shine that little brighter with happiness.
Line-up: Cassandra Wilson - vocals, Marvin Sewell - guitar, Herlin Reiley - drums, Jonathan Batiste - piano, Lonnie Plaxico - bass, Lekan Baba Lola – percussion
